Cliff was born in Bloomburg, Cass County, Texas, on June 2nd, 1918. His parents were Ben D. Hogue and Connie Easters Hogue.
He was born again on Sunday, August 9th, 1931. He was baptized in Line Creek on the Hansford farm west of Bloomburg.
Cliff received his High School diploma at Denton High School in Denton, Texas, in 1934. He enrolled at Texas A&M University in September 1935, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree on June 2nd, 1939.
Cliff entered active duty with the Army Air Corps in March 1941. His principle duty stations were Lowry Field in Denver, Colorado, Midland Bombardier School, and with the 416th Bombardment Group in the 9th Air Force in Europe in 1944 and 1945.
Cliff was an active member of First Baptist Church in Midland. At a Church ceremony in 1998, he was recognized as having served the Church as a deacon for more than 50 years. His purpose in life was to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ at every opportunity. During his attendance at Texas A&M, he was active in church work, and he was president of the Baptist Student Union during his senior year. At First Baptist Church, he was a teacher and he was active in missions outreach. He served as a member of the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas for two three-year terms in the 1960's and as a Director of the Southern Baptist Convention's Home Mission Board for two four-year terms in the 1980's. He and his family served in missions outreach in the establishment of Belview Baptist Church, Crestview Baptist Church, Fannin Terrace Baptist Church and Stonegate Baptist Church. Cliff was active in Boy Scout work for about 35 years. He began his work in Boy Scouts as a young teenager. He served as Scout Master of Troop 54 in Midland, beginning in 1946, and later served in Explorer Scouts. He was elected chairman of the Chaparral District of the Buffalo Council in 1968.
Professionally, he was a Realtor and a real estate appraiser. He was a founding member of the Midland Board of Realtors in 1947. He was given the Golden Eagle award of the Midland Board in 1982 and awarded Life Membership in the Midland Board of Realtors in 1988. He achieved the MAI designation of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers in 1962. He was a founding member of Texas Plains Chapter of the Appraisal Institute in 1977. He served on the National Ethics Committee and on the Governing Council of the Appraisal Institute. He received several awards from the local Chapter and from the Appraisal Institute, and he was awarded Life Membership in the Appraisal Institute in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alyce, and three children, Clifford E. (Pete) Hogue, Jr. and wife Evelyn of Midland, Ben P. Hogue and wife Becky of Wimberly, TX and Carol Bradley of Midland, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church at 11:00 o'clock on February 1, 2007.
