Martha died March 7, 2005 in Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL. OBIT: Martha R. Nelson, 71, of Interlachen, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Hadlow Center for Caring in Jacksonville following an extended illness.
She was born in Covington, Ga., and had been a resident of Interlachen for the past 30 years, coming from New Jersey. She had worked as a bartender at Southwell's Restaurant in Palatka and the former Stanley's Liquors in Interlachen. She had also worked at the former Miller's Grocery in Interlachen. She enjoyed playing bingo and she had formerly managed the bingo hall in Hawthorne for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Interlachen. She served as an aide to the Unit 16/17 Volunteer Fire Department in Interlachen. She was a Baptist. She was loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Nelson. She is survived by her mother, Mae Young of Covington; son, Dan Still of Interlachen; adopted daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Ricky Fitzwater of Interlachen; two brothers and sister-in-law, Bobby and Diane Hamby of Porterdale, Ga., and John Hamby of Honolulu, Hawaii; one sister and friend of 61 years, Elinor Alton of Covington; and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 11 at the Masters Funeral Home in Interlachen with Dr. James Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery in Interlachen.
She married twice. She married Robert Murray Nelson. Robert was born March 4,1930 in Philadelphia, PA. Robert was the son of Robert Nelson and Florence E. Saxton. Robert died December 30,1990 in Putman Co., FL. She married (___) Still.
