Willard died June 6,2012 in Boydton, Mecklenburg Co, VA. OBIT: Mr. Willard Montgomery Layne, age 76 of South Hill died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 after a short courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 12, 1935 in Boydton, Va. to Leonard and Daisey Layne who preceded him in death. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Baskerville, Va. where he served as a deacon and an active member of his church. He was loved by his church members and his family and was considered a kind mild-mannered man to all who met him and loved him. His beloved wife, Irene preceded him in death 10 years ago. He is survived by his son Billy and his wife Diane and their children Jonathan and Matthew Layne of La Crosse, his daughter Jean Burnette and her husband Phillip and their children Daniel and Joseph of Henderson, NC and a son Charles of Chase City and his caregiver Gail Wilson. He is also survived by a brother-in-law and several sisters-in-law who were his friends and companions. Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of VDOT. He will be missed by all.

A funeral service was conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Baskerville. The family received friends Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory.

He married Iva Irene Griffin February 21,1956 in Alamance Co., NC. Iva was born March 20, 1938. Iva died July 3,2002.

Willard Montgomery Layne and Iva Irene Griffin had the following children:
