Eugene died January 28, 2014. OBIT: Mr. Eugene P. (Wormy) Abernathy, 83, of Alpharetta, died January 28, 2014.
Born in Roswell to Willie and Hattie Gillham Abernathy, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, an active member of the Atlanta Street Baptist Church for over 60 years, and a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was a Master Mason, a member of the Eastern Star and retired from the Fulton County Public Works.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Abernathy, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Green Abernathy; daughters, Roxie Fowler (Larry), Sabrina Gilbert (Michael); son, Mark Abernathy (Cindy); grandchildren, Aaron Fowler (Dusti), Allison Talley (Ryan), Cody Abernathy, Ian and Tabitha Gilbert; great grandchildren, Hadley, Alex and Amelia Fowler and Rylan and Emery Talley; sister-in-law, Leola Abernathy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 2:00 pm at the Atlanta Street Baptist Church, 340 South Atlanta St., Roswell. Rev. Carl Jameson and Rev. Joel Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
