2010 in Placentia, Orange Co., CA.
OBIT: George Franklin Nichols of Placentia, died peacefully on May 4, at the age of 92. His wife, Barbara, preceded George in death in
1984. His great-niece, LeAnn; two sons, Jeffrey and Christopher; sister, Betty Walker, of Texas; and many other relatives and friends
survive him. George is a World War II veteran, and a member of the 34th "Red Bull" Infantry Division, the first US Division deployed to
Europe in WWII. He was captured by Germans in North Africa and held as a POW for 26 months. He was discharged in 1945, and awarded the
Bronze Star. George moved to California and worked for the LA Times for 40 years, from 1945-1985. Upon retiring, George moved to the
Hacienda Senior Park, in Placentia, where he lived happily, making great friends and memories. George was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge
#1917, Culver City (58 years) and a member of American Legion Post #277, Placentia (23 years). Services will be held at Hacienda Senior Park
Clubhouse, 161 E. Orangethorpe Ave, Placentia on Friday May 7, at 3 p.m.
He married Barbara Jane Cagwin August 5, 1945 in Los Angeles Co. CA. Barbara was born
September 16, 1921 in Marshalltown, Marshall Co., IA. Barbara was the daughter of Chesley D Cagwin and Hattie M. Lee.
Barbara died April 20, 1984 in Torrance, Los Angeles Co., CA.
George Franklin Nichols and Barbara Jane Cagwin had the following children:
