Roland died August 20, 2009 in LaCrosse, WI. OBIT: Roland W. Bettis, Sr., 68, of Princeton, Iowa died Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 27, 2009 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Roland was born July 9, 1941 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Ethan W. & June E. (Allgood) Bettis. Roland entered the United States Army in April of 1959 and was honorably discharged in August of 1960. Roland was retired after driving for many years with various trucking companies. He enjoyed hunting and various outdoor activities. Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Jennifer (Neil) Heins of Monona, Iowa and Laurie Collier of Davenport; his sons, David (Carilyn) Bettis of Des Moines, Iowa and Roland Bettis, Jr. of Princeton; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his mother, June Bettis, of Bettendorf; his sister, Janet (Dale) Stroud of Springfield, Ohio; and his brothers, Richard (Linda) Bettis of LeClaire and Larry (Diana) Bettis of Moline, Illinois. Roland was preceded in death by his father; and his daughter, Barb.
