He married Bernadine (Bern) Clementine Fry January 25, 1949 in Ottumwa, Wapello Co., IA. Bernadine was born May 9, 1931 in Sigourney, Keokuk Co., IA. Bernadine was the daughter of Charles Fry and Mae Iosbaker. Bernadine died March 12, 2004 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA. OBIT: Bernadine "Bern" C. Padgett, 72, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, March 12, at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 15, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, Gloria Nollen of Central Reformed Church and her nephew, Tom Brown, officiating. Cremation has taken place; burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Memorials: Mahaska Hospice. Bernadine Clementine Padgett, daughter of Charles and Mae Iosbaker Fry, was born May 9, 1931, in Sigourney. She was a 1948 graduate of Barnes City High School, where she was active in basketball and softball. She married Thomas Padgett on Jan. 25, 1949, in Ottumwa. She was the primary caregiver, owner and operator of Oskaloosa Care Center for many years, retiring in 2000. Bern loved time with her family and her dogs. She also enjoyed bingo, playing the piano, fishing, hunting mushrooms, and was an avid sports fan. She is survived by her husband, Tom, of Oskaloosa; four children and spouses: Barb and Randy Couper of Monroe, Rex Padgett, Ron and Jan Padgett and Jack and Barb Padgett, all of Oskaloosa; 10 grandchildren: Todd and Jack Mich, Kim Herbolt, Morgan and Natalie Padgett, Chad (and Deb) Padgett, Matt (and Cara) Padgett, and Jon, Cory and Betsy Lee; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Phil and Kay Fry of Colorado and Dave and Phyllis Fry of Beacon; and her two dogs: Moose and Lucy. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ruth McIntosh; a son in infancy, Tom Padgett; a son-in-law, Dale Mich; and a grandson, Zachary Padgett.
