Thomas died June 2, 2007 in Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA. Obit: Thomas Earl Herring, Jr. 59, of Smiths , Al. died Saturday June 2, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 4:00 pm Tuesday June 5th at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. John Rigsby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Roy Kelly, Russell Slappey, Paul Self, Bryan Roberson, Keith Slappey and Tim McClain. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Philadelphia Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Phenix City Chapel. Mr. Herring was born March 1, 1948 in Columbus, son of the late Thomas Earl Herring, Sr. and Frances Newsome Herring of Smiths, Al. He was a realtor with Shepard Broker.Com GMAC Real Estate. He was a member and Deacon of Philadelphia Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He was an officer on the Board of Realtors for Russell County and a member of Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother Mark Herring. Survivors other than his mother include his wife, Sandy Herring of Smiths, daughter, Amy Herring Shumate, husband Brian of Smiths, son, Thomas Bryan Herring, wife April of Smiths, and daughter Ashley Brooke Herring and her fiancˇ Daniel Forsythe. Three grandchildren, Emily, McKenzie, and Gabe; three sisters Ginger Dean and husband James of Toomsboro, Ga., Heidi Herring of Smiths, and Holli Redden and her husband Ricky of Smiths.
