Sherman died January 9, 2002 in Ardmore, Carter Co., OK. Obit - Services for Sherman Columbus Raper, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Davis with the Rev. G.C. Sharp and the Rev. James Densman officiating. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home. Born Jan. 5, 1916, in Milburn, Okla., to Isaac Arthur and Maggie Peeler Raper, he died Jan. 9, 2002, in Ardmore.
He served in the Marine Corps four years during World War II in Okinawa and worked as a drilling superintendent in the oil industry. He and Molly Lula Williams were married on July 2, 1936, at Milburn. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 29, 1989; and a son, Sherman Jr.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Katherine and James H. Yell of Lone Grove; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wiley Conrad and Judy Raper of Carrollton, Texas, David Allan and Janie Raper of Red Oak, Texas, and Jerry Don and Glenna Raper of Davis; two brothers, Reford and Naomi Raper of Wheatland, and C.W. Williams of Sulphur; four sisters and brother-in-law, Lois and David Webb, Ruthie Gibson, Johnnie Wiggins, Betty Joy Jones, all of Davis; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Phil Gibson, Wyatt Gibson, Jerry Paul Pullen, Jimmy Jones, Dave Webb and Bennie Williams, Eddie Williams, Charles Mainard, Mike Williams, Tommy Williams and Lynn Williams.
He married Mollie Lula Williams July 2, 1936 in Milburn, Johnston Co., OK. Mollie was born October 27, 1921 in Sulphur, Murray Co., OK. Mollie died October 28, 1989 in Ardmore, Carter Co., OK. Mollie was buried in Davis, OK
