Marjorie was born in Stillwater, OK on Oct. 1, 1921, the eldest daughter of Orlo and Alice Carrie (Hall) Hinkle. Four years later younger sister Dayna joined the family; Marjorie dearly loved her baby sister; she and Dayna remained devoted to each other throughout their lives.
During Marjorie’s early childhood her father took out a Homestead in the Four Corners Region of Southern Colorado, where the family remained until the separation of Marjorie’s parents, which precipitated the return of Marjorie, Dayna and Alice back to the Hall Farm in rural Stillwater, OK. Marjorie attended school in the Fairview Dist. in rural Payne Co., OK. During times away from school Marjorie “hired out” to assist others with child care or housework. Marjorie loved spending time with children as well as housekeeping. Marjorie’s exceptional domestic skills provided her with as much employment as she wanted during her teenage years.
September 15, 1939 Marjorie married the great love of her life, George H. Johnson, also from Stillwater, OK. Their marriage survived sixty-six years, consisting of many relocation’s between, Oklahoma, Oregon, California as well as times lived in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. Four children, Ron, Sharon, Joe and Gary blessed their parents marriage. For Marjorie, her children and extended family were her life, one of the grandest joys was learning of a new grandchild/great grandchild, and she would not stop until she learned every detail about her newest family member.
Marjorie believed she and George set the record for moving: thirty-six times throughout their married life. Marjorie never met a stranger; her outgoing personality immediately drew others to her. The numerous acquaintances accumulated over time could count on receiving written acknowledgments of birthdays, anniversaries and holidays.
October, 1975 George and Marjorie immigrated to Drayton Valley, Alta., Canada. Approximately four years later they purchased a home in Middleton, ID staying long enough to remodel that property, then back to Drayton Valley, tempted once again by the appeal of Pembina Oil dollars. Contemplating retirement, the couple moved to scenic Salmon Arm, B.C. until summer of 1989 when they moved to Payette, ID until the spring of 2001, which brought about a final relocation to a subdivision in Ontario, OR, where Marjorie remained until her hospitalization and subsequent move to Pioneer Place in Vale, OR.
